As a versatile Norwegian conductor, Torodd Wigum belongs to the leading conductors in his region, with a wide range of classical and romantic repertoire as well as film and game music projects and opera.
He is Chief Conductor of the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra, NUSO, and Artistic adviser for Ringsakeroperaen in Norway.
Wigum attended several Masterclasses with the legendary Finnish conductor and Professor Jorma Panula, and he has also assisted Maestro Neeme Järvi both in Bergen (Norway) and Tallinn (Estonia). From January 2007 to August 2009 Torodd Wigum was assistant conductor with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Andrew Litton.
From 2010 until 2016 Wigum was appointed ‘Conductor in Residence’ at Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. During the years of 2009-2015 he was Artistic Director of the Trondheim Sinfonietta, and in 2010/2011 he was House Conductor with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
During the last years, Wigum has guest-conducted orchestras like Gothenburg Symphoniker, The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, and the MDR Sinfonieorchester.
Recent and forthcoming engagements include Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and The Kristiansund Opera, as well as Bremer Philharmoniker and Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra and Nordic Chamber Orchestra in Sweden.
During the season 2022/23 Wigum is conducting Giuseppe Verdi’s «Il Trovatore» at The Kristiansund Opera and Giacomo Puccini’s «Madama Butterfly» at Opera Trøndelag. Season 2023/24 include «Die Fledermaus» by Johann Strauss II at Ringsakeroperaen and Giuseppe Verdi’ «La traviata» both at The Kristiansund Opera and Opera Trøndelag.
Wigum has conducted many concerts with film- and game music, both in Norway and Sweden. In May 2021 he conducted an all James Horner-program with the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra in Poland. This concert was made possible in close collaboration with the James Horner Film Music Association and Horner’s widow, Sara Horner.
Torodd Wigum studied the viola at Trøndelag Musikkonservatorium and the Norwegian Academy of music. Still a student he was appointed as principal viola in the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for six years. At the same time he was the solo viola in the Trondheim Soloists, a chamber orchestra who has toured with a.o. Anne-Sophie Mutter, Jurij Basjmet and Leif Ove Andsnes.
