Tim Kliphuis
In the brand new Pictures at an Exhibition, Tim Kliphuis and his Trio present a fresh take on the world. Mussorgsky’s music (Bydlo, Gnomus, Baba Yaga, Il Castello Vecchio) has been drawn to this time and sounds different every concert; Kliphuis wrote new music inspired by Klimt’s The Kiss, Van Gogh’s Starry Sky, O’Keeffe’s Ritz Tower and Hokusai’s Great Wave. In between, Promenades invites contemplation: how the paintings comment on the oppressive situation of animals, hectic city life, and rising waters.
This suite takes 45 minutes in total, and can be performed as a festival set, in separate parts, with or without projections, and in combination with Tim’s Trio’s Gypsy Jazz gems or climate hit The Five Elements, which opened the United Nations Water Conference in March 2023.
